The History of Quicksilver
Quicksilver is one of the most famous and successful brand for surfing, surfing equipment and beach wear, particularly their boardshorts averaging approximately $172.7 million per annum. Quicksilver are based in California and first began back in the 1970ís. The main focus for Quicksilver was not only to produce surf wear for surfers but to provide and lead a fashion trend for surfers. This is probably the main reason why they have become as popular as they have. Any company can design and sell a pair of shorts, but Quicksilver adds their jazz to the simple pair of shorts idea, and it has certainly paid off, they are one of the leading brands for board shorts and other surfing apparel.
How did Quicksilver come about?
Itís an interesting story actually. In the 1960ís two surfers came together and decided they wanted to move to Torquay and surf all day everyday. What a great dream! But of course they had to fund their living. So one of the surfers, Alan Green, borrowed $2500 from his father and designed and developed wetsuits, he called them Rip Curl. Then after that they later went on to design a shoe for surfers which they called UGG Boots. It was in 1970 that John Law, the other surfer, took a pair of trunks and ripped them apart with the intention to make them better and perfect for a surfer. They named them board shorts and called the brand Quicksilver.
Why do people love Quicksilver?
The brand Quicksilver has gone above and beyond any expectation for a surfing name. It started out as specializing in board shorts for men and now it sells wet suits, a whole range for women, watches, foot wear, and a childrens section, and all over the world. The main reason why Quicksilver is so popular is because they donít just create clothes and surfing accessories which are good quality and useful to use, they make them look good too! So much so that even if your not going surfing or even going to the beach, people still wear their clothes out and about purely because of the name and for a fashion statement.
